Alexander Nicholson
Alex has been a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner since 2012 after graduating from SUNY Upstate Medical University. Interest in psychiatry and psychology goes back to his childhood when he predicted a career in the field before entering high school. Prior to becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner, he received his B.A. in Psychology from Geneseo in 2003 after which he worked in children’s residential facilities and children’s shelters and continued in such settings as a nurse after obtaining his RN in 2008. Following NP school, he began work as an NPP in 2012 treating children and adults while pursuing further training in psychotherapy until completing a three-year course in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) in 2017.
Alex continues to see children and adults in his practice for psychiatric evaluation and medication management. He also provides psychotherapy to adult patients and takes on new psychotherapy cases as his schedule permits. Alex will be providing Spravato (Ketamine) treatment starting in March 2024 and incorporates integrative medicine in his practice. Alex treats a broad spectrum of psychiatric and emotional health concerns/ disorders (e.g. ADHD, anxiety, bipolar, depression, relationship concerns, etc) and has a growing interest in evaluating and treating autoimmune/neuropsychiatric conditions such as PANDAS/PANS and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME-CFS) of which more information will be coming in the future. In his free time, Alex spends most of his time with his wife and four daughters, watching the New York Rangers or Miami Dolphins, reading books on history, or is absorbed in old movies and music.
