Alexander Nicholson
Alex has been a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner since 2012, after graduating from SUNY Upstate Medical University. His interest in psychiatry and psychology began early in life and ultimately led him to pursue a career in mental health. He earned his B.A. in Psychology from SUNY Geneseo in 2003 and subsequently worked in children's residential treatment programs and shelters. After becoming a Registered Nurse in 2008, he continued caring for children in these settings before returning to complete his psychiatric nurse practitioner training.
Since beginning practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in 2012, Alex has treated both children and adults while pursuing advanced training in psychotherapy. In 2017, he completed a three-year Core Training program in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), which continues to inform his clinical approach.
Alex provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management for children and adults. He also offers psychotherapy for adults on a private-pay basis (insurance is not accepted for psychotherapy). In addition to traditional psychiatric care, he offers Spravato® (Esketamine) treatment when clinically appropriate and incorporates principles of integrative medicine into his practice.
He treats a broad range of psychiatric and emotional concerns, including ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, and relationship difficulties. Alex also has a growing clinical interest in the evaluation and treatment of autoimmune and neuropsychiatric conditions, particularly Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS).
Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending time with his wife and four daughters. He is an avid fan of the New York Rangers and Miami Dolphins and can often be found reading history, watching classic films, or listening to music.
